Rio de Janeiro – Retail sales in Brazil slid by 0.2% in February from January according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Year-on-year in February, retail sales dropped by 2.2%. The 12 months through February saw sales decline by 5.4%.
Sales dropped in three out of the eight retail activities tracked, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco, down 0.5%; office, computer and communication equipment, down 1.5%; and other personal and household items, down 1.8%.
