São Paulo – In the first quarter of this year, the state of São Paulo granted 6,092 work permits to foreigners, according to figures disclosed by Investe São Paulo, a state-owned association for promotion of investment and competitiveness. This figure represented 40% of the total work permits issued in Brazil. From 2010 to March 2013, a total of 94,526 work permits were issued in the state, 46% of the 206.526 permits granted throughout Brazil.
This information is based on figures disclosed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s General Coordination for Immigration. According to the president at Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida, the figures are a reflex of greater presence of foreign companies in the state in recent years, according to a press statement disclosed by Investe São Paulo. The state also concentrates the greatest share of foreign direct investment in the country.
