Importers are shifting towards Brazilian beef as an alternative to unavailable Indian buffalo meat. The subject was discussed in a webinar hosted by consulting firm Datagro and livestock industry association GPB.

Among the new plants that can export to the Arab country, 15 are beef packers and 27 are poultry packers.

The Tanmiah Food Group processes beef and poultry in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its plans include stepping up protein imports from Brazil and finding partners whose product can be processed at the Group’s facilities and sold under the original Brazilian brand.
Beef shipments in February declined by 6% year-on-year. China reduced purchases.
Brazil was not authorized to sell the product to the Arab country since 2013, when the market closed due to one atypical case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
The month saw 17,123 tonnes shipped from Brazil. Revenue was down 27% year-on-year.
