In his speech at the opening of COP28 in Dubai, the president of Brazil criticized richer countries that did not comply with the Paris Agreement and compared the amounts spent on weapons with the amount that could be allocated to the climate change loss and damage fund.
The Brazilian oil company announced this Monday (20) its goal of neutralizing greenhouse gas emissions in operations under its control, following the deadlines of the Paris Agreement.
Brazil’s president made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in up to 40% by 2030. The Summit precedes the 26th Climate Change Conference, COP26, to be held in Scotland. Saudi Arabia also took part in the meeting that brought together some 40 leaders.
The country wishes to host the UN Climate Change Conference in November of next year.
