For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, Mecca will host pilgrims from other countries.
This year Eid Al-Adha takes place on July 20. Some countries, especially in the Gulf, declared a holiday from July 19 to 22. Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is limited to Saudis and residents. Mosques are open but with distancing and reduced capacity.
Due to the pandemic, registration will be limited to 60,000 citizens and residents. Women can register without a male guardian.
The country has resumed the pilgrimage in a phased manner since October and reported that no case of COVID-19 has been recorded.
The Saudi administration said the Muslim pilgrimage will resume starting October 4, with maximum 30% occupancy of the Grand Mosque. Foreign pilgrims will be allowed in as of November 1.
The pilgrimage to Mecca is restricted to Saudi residents this year. Pilgrims are getting tested for Covid-19 and getting their temperatures taken. They will be required to undergo a quarantine at the end of their journey.
The Saudi Arabian government is accepting registration from non-national residents to join the religious pilgrimage due late July. Saudi medical professionals and security workers who have recovered will be selected to join the Hajj.
The pilgrimage to Mecca usually sees over 2 million flock to Mecca. It will take place from July 28 to August 2 this year, with limits on pilgrim numbers to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.
Every year, more than 2 million pilgrims from all over the world go to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to perform the fifth pillar of Islam. This year, Hajj runs from August 9 to 14, and Brazil is expected to send a group of approximately 200 people.
The number of pilgrims that made their way to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, surpassed last year’s figures. The Hajj is considered the world’s largest annual religious gathering.
The Tunisian carrier’s chairman and CEO believes passenger numbers will exceed 4 million and revenue will hit an all-time high.
