São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce should promote, on Thursday (12), at 9:30 am, a seminar on the economic scenery in the Arab countries. Those participating will hear a talk by the organisation’s CEO, Michel Alaby, at the Arab Brazilian Chamber auditorium. The executive should cover, among other themes, the business perspectives in the region, where some countries faced – and others are facing – conflict and change in the government.
“Despite the crisis, exports to the region are still good,” said Alaby, pointing out that business should not be affected by the changes. In the first quarter of this year, for example, sales from Brazil to the Arab countries grew 38.13% and reached US$ 3.16 billion, against US$ 2.28 billion in the same period in 2010. Exports to Egypt, for example, advanced 44.7% to US$ 400.8 million.
According to Alaby, sales should continue growing throughout the year, mainly due to Ramadan, the religious period for Islam, in which the Muslims fast during the day and promote dinners and parties in the evening. “Ramadan is on the way and these countries need great volumes of food. For this reason, Brazilian exports should remain at this level of growth,” said the CEO.
Apart from speaking about the elements that resulted in the crisis in the Arab world, and providing probable sceneries for the countries most affected by the conflicts, Alaby should also supply updated figures regarding trade between Brazil and the region, as well as talking about coming initiatives for trade promotion in the region, like fairs, delegations and partnerships with governments, as well as mentioning the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber to exporters.
Participation is open to businessmen and admittance is free. Enrolment is in charge of the Marketing Department at the Arab Brazilian Chamber (view contact information below). On Tuesday (10), at 10:30am, Michel Alaby should also give a talk on the economic scenery in the Arab countries, to journalists, at the organisation’s offices.
