São Paulo – Brazilian exports totaled USD 2.442 billion in the third week of January, with imports totaling USD 2.599 billion, according to data released this Monday (25th) by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC). In the period, the country posted a trade deficit of USD 156 million. Year-to-date until the third week of January, however, there’s a surplus of USD 315 million.
In the third week of January, exports totaled USD 488.5 million on average per business day, 19.5% less than the results up to the second week of the month. Exports of basic goods and semi-finished products declined, while exports of finished products increased in comparison to the second week of the month.
Meanwhile, imports totaled USD 519.7 million per business day, a drop of 7.1% in comparison to the second week of the month. According to the MDIC, there was a decline in spending with mechanical equipment, electronics, organic and inorganic chemicals, plastics and by-products, precision and optical equipment, and rubber and by-products.
