São Paulo – The TV show Ver TV, on TV Brasil, a federal government-owned station, airs this Friday (25th) a debate on the coverage by the major news outlets of Europe’s refugee crisis. According to Vitor Chambon, executive producer of the channel in São Paulo, the show tries to answer questions such as: how have the news been featured on the web? Have the historical facts surrounding the issue been mentioned?
The coverage made by broadcast TV will get special attention during the debate. The idea is to show that the facts are covered as if they just suddenly appeared, with no background, and to seek for explanations beyond what was aired by the media.
The following guests were invited by the program, to be aired at 8 PM: Samira Osman, Asia History professor at São Paulo Federal University (Unifesp) and author of a book about Lebanese immigration in Brazil; the journalist and historian Rodrigo Vianna, from TV Record; and the Foreign Relations professor at PUC-SP and Fecap, Cláudia Marconi.
Presented by sociologist and journalist Lalo Leal, the show will also air interviews with Gisele Chagas, from the Anthropology Department of Fluminense Federal University (UFF), Zilda Iokoi, from the History Department of University of São Paulo (USP), and with journalist Alberto Dines, from Observatório da Imprensa (Press Observatory).
The show will have a rerun early Thursday (1st), at 1 AM, and will be made available afterwards at http://www.tvbrasil.ebc.com.br/vertv/episodio/a-cobertura-jornalistica-dos-refugiados-na-europa. To know how to tune into TV Brasil, go to: http://tvbrasil.ebc.com.br/comosintonizar.
