São Paulo – Timber industry revenue was up 7.3% in Brazil year-to-date through April from a year ago, industry association Indústria Brasileira de Árvores (Ibá) reported this Monday (30th). Revenue was up 11% for pulp, which accounts for the bulk of industry exports.
Foreign sales of industry products – wood pulp, wood panels and paper – grossed US$ 2.6 billion from January to April, up USD 177 million from USD 2.4 billion in the year-ago period. Revenue from pulp exports stood at USD 1.91 billion, up from USD 1.72 billion from January through April 2015.
Wood panel exports also climbed, by 21.1% from USD 57 million to USD 69 million, although this is the least relevant export product. Paper ranks second in foreign trade relevance and grossed USD 621 million, down 3.9% from USD 646 million through April 2015.
The part of the world that purchased the most wood pulp from Brazil was Europe, followed by China and North America. The top destinations of Brazilian paper were Latin America, Europe and North America, in that order. Latin America was the top buyer of Brazilian wood panels, trailed by North America in second and Asia /Oceania in third.
