Development in São Francisco Valley, in Brazil, is compared to that in California
The second article of the series shows how irrigated fruit growing improved the region of the Valley of the São Francisco River, in the Northeast of Brazil. Revenues with internal and external mango and grapes sales transformed the cities of Petrolina and Juazeiro into real financial-economic centres of the Northeast of Brazil. One of the reasons: the fruits increased the income of the population in general – from the producers to the rural workers.
