Development in S√£o Francisco Valley, in Brazil, is compared to that in California

The second article of the series shows how irrigated fruit growing improved the region of the Valley of the S√£o Francisco River, in the Northeast of Brazil. Revenues with internal and external mango and grapes sales transformed the cities of Petrolina and Juazeiro into real financial-economic centres of the Northeast of Brazil. One of the reasons: the fruits increased the income of the population in general – from the producers to the rural workers.
