São Paulo – The gross value of agricultural production (VBPA, in the Portuguese acronym) should grow 4.95% in 2014 as against what is expected for 2013. According to the forecast disclosed on Thursday (14) by the Ministry of Agriculture, the value of production should total R$ 440.56 billion (US$ 189 billion) next year. The Ministry’s figures show that this year, the VBPA should reach R$ 419.76 billion (US$ 180 billion), or 9.6% over the total obtained in 2012.
The Strategic Planning coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture, José Garcia Gasques, stated, however, that the VBPA for 2014 is still a forecast based on the results estimated for this year.
The Ministry of Agriculture calculates that this year R$ 278.72 billion (US$ 119 billion) of VBPA should come from agriculture and R$ 141 billion (US$ 60 billion) should come from livestock. If these figures are confirmed, the value of agricultural production will have grown 9.2% this year and that of livestock, 10.5% in comparison with 2012.
The products with the greatest growth in 2013, according to the Ministry, are tomato, potato, orange, wheat, tobacco, banana, rice, sugarcane, beans, cassava and maize. In livestock, the main price increases in production should be recorded between chicken, eggs and pork.
