São Paulo – Spain won the title, Argentina finished as runners-up, and England and France completed the top four. While the tournament’s leading finishers were already well known, FIFA on Monday (20) released the final rankings of all 48 teams that competed in the Men’s World Cup, with Morocco and Egypt emerging as the highest-ranked Arab national teams.
For teams eliminated in the same round, FIFA determined the final rankings based on total points earned across all matches (with penalty shootout games counted as draws), overall goal difference, and total goals scored throughout the tournament.
Among the Arab nations, Morocco recorded the highest finish, placing seventh overall. Although the Moroccans did not repeat their historic run to the semifinals in Qatar in 2022, they finished second in Group C before being eliminated in the quarterfinals. Egypt was the second-highest ranked Arab team, finishing 15th at the World Cup, which was held in Mexico, Canada and the United States. The Egyptians advanced to the round of 16.
Algeria was the next highest-ranked Arab team, finishing 30th overall after reaching the round of 32. The remaining Arab teams were eliminated in the group stage. Saudi Arabia finished 38th, followed by Qatar in 41st, Jordan in 44th and Tunisia in 47th. Iraq placed last, in 48th, but achieved a major milestone by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup after a 40-year absence.
