São Paulo – Seven people of Arab origin sat the Portuguese proficiency test on Wednesday (27) and Thursday (28) to show their level of understanding of the language. The tests of the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras) will be applied to 2,964 foreigners or even Brazilians who do not have Portuguese as their mother tongue.
The evaluation takes place at 66 registered institutions in Brazil and at 26 in countries in America, Europe, Africa and Asia. As there are no units in the Arab nations, people from those countries have to sit the tests in other countries or in Brazil. From the Arab world, one candidate is from Lebanon, another from Egypt, one from Palestine, two from Algeria and two from Morocco.
Celpe-Brasil includes two evaluations, one written and one oral. Participants may be certified as intermediate, upper intermediate, advanced and upper advanced. The results should be disclosed on June 27th. Celpe-Bras is required in Brazil by universities for admittance to graduate and post-graduate programs.
