São Paulo – The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) announced on Tuesday (08) the approval of two financing plans for an estimated US$ 15 million for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant and a transmission line in the state of Goiás and for the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant in Rio Grande do Sul.
The loan will be made through the Program for Financial Support to the Electric Sector and according to the bank is going to generate 1,200 direct and indirect jobs.
Of this total an estimated US$ 9.9 million will be loaned to Espora Energética S.A for the installation of Espora hydroelectric power plant, located between the municipalities of Aporé and Serranópolis (both in the midwestern state of Goiás) and in the construction of a 35 kilometre long transmission line. In the first two projects the company will make total investment of US$ 31.6 million.
The remains of the loan, around US$ 5.2 million will be made to Jaguari Energética S.A that is going to build a small hydroelectric power plant named Furnas do Segredo, in Jaguari (in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul). The BNDES investment represents 55% of the total the company is going to invest in the enterprise, around US$ 9.4 million.
Still according to information supplied by the bank, in 2003 the credits approved by the bank total around US$ 1.77 billion for projects in the electrical sector. Of this total, US$ 1,35 billion go to hydroelectric power plants, US$ 265 million to transmission lines, and US$ 170 million for thermoelectric power plants.
