São Paulo – On Saturday (15), Boeing delivered its first commercial jet to Iraq in 30 years. The Boeing 777-200LR is the first to get to Baghdad in an order that includes other aircraft by the North American supplier, for the Iraqi Airways fleet. According to the minister of Transport of Iraq, Hadi al-Ameri, the aircraft should be used on international flights and should help the country operate in the long-distance sector.
According to Boeing, this is the first aircraft to be delivered by the company to Iraq since a Boeing 747 was sold to the country, in 1982. The current order by the country to the North American aircraft maker includes 30 units of the 737 Max, an aircraft with lower capacity than the 777, and 10 models of the 787 aircraft. The first 737 should be delivered in 2013. In early December, Airbus delivered an A330 to Iraqi Airways.
This model of the 777 jet has flight autonomy of 17,395 kilometres, and may transport up to 301 passengers. According to Boeing, it is the aircraft that combines the greatest passenger and cargo transport capacity on long-distance flights.
