Brasília – The Brazilian grain crop in the 2012/2013 period should reach 186.15 million tonnes. According to the National Food Supply Company (Conab), the estimate for production is record and presents growth of 12.1% over the previous period. This is the 11th company study, developed from July 22nd to 26th.
According to Conab, the expansion is mainly due to soy and maize cultures, with 10.7% and 17.6% growth of cultivated areas, respectively. Production of soy rose 22.7% (81.46 million tonnes) and maize (45.14 million tonnes), 15.4%. The total cultivated area is 53.27 million hectares. Soy culture covers the main area, with 27.72 million hectares.
The Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE) forecast for the Brazilian grain crop, of leguminous and oleaginous plants, rose 1.2% in July over June. The expectation is for the crop to grow 16.1%, reaching 187.9 million tonnes. If confirmed, the expansion should be the greatest since 2003, when variation over 2002 was 27.2%.
