Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Tuesday (11) that 2020 cereal, pulse and oilseed production was estimated at 246.7 million tonnes, up 5.3 million tonnes, or 2.2%, year-on-year. The survey also forecasts that Brazilian crop could be the largest one of the institute’s historical series started in 1975. According to the survey, the planted area is 64.3 million hectares, up 1.1 million hectares, or 1.7%, year-on-year.
The estimate forecasts a record-high output of soy, up 8.7% to 123.3 million tonnes, and cotton, up 1.6%, to 7 million tonnes.
Rice, maize and soy are the top three products, which added up to 93.2% of the estimated production and 87.2% of the planted area. Year-on-year, maize area saw a 1.3% increase, soy area a 2.4% increase, cotton area a 5.8% increase, and rice area a 2.5% decline.
It’s expected a 4.4% decline in maize production, to 96.2 million tonnes (27 million tonnes in the first crop and 69.1 million tonnes in the second one).
