Rio de Janeiro – Brazil ended last year with 12.3 million of unemployed people, according to the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD) made public this Tuesday (31) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The moving average rate ended Q4 at 12%, stable in comparison to the 11.8% registered in Q3 of the same year (July, August and September). In comparison to the same period of 2015 (9%), the unemployment average rate rose 3 percentage points. It’s the highest rate of the historical series that starts in 2012.
According to the survey, the unemployed population in Brazil increased 2.7% against Q3 (July to September) 2016 and 36% (or more 3.3 million people) in comparison to Q4 2015.
In turn, the country’s employed population reached 90.3 million people, up 0.5% over the previous quarter and 2.1% over Q4 2015.
