São Paulo – Brazilian exports of beef to the Arab countries fetched USD 99.55 million in September, an increase of 37% over the same month of 2014. In 2015, year-to-date, sales to the region totaled USD 792.6 million, an increase of 17.2% over the January to September time period of last year. The data came from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
Egypt is Brazil’s main market among Arab countries and the third worldwide. Shipments of beef to Egypt totaled USD 68.9 million last month, an increase of 46.4% over September 2014. From January to September, exports totaled USD 502.3 million, an increase of 38.7% over the same period of last year.
Algeria stood at second place among Arab markets and at the 10th position worldwide and year-to-date. Exports to the country totaled USD 71 million from January to September, a decline of 5% over the same period of 2014. In the first nine months of 2015, sales increased also to the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Palestine and Oman.
According to information from the Association of Brazilian Beef Exporters (Abiec), September was the best month of the year for the sector concerning external sales. Overall, 117,700 tons were shipped, to a result of USD 520.4 million. The traded volume was 2.45% higher than in August, with revenues also increasing 2.79% over the same month. In comparison to September of last year, however, revenues declined 7.9%, with volume shipped dropping 0.4%.
From January to September, according to Abiec, beef exporters totaled USD 4.3 billion, a decline of 18% over the same period of last year. In all, 999,000 tons were shipped, a drop of 13% in the same comparison.
