Brasília – Net job creation was negative by 40,864 posts in January in Brazil, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) made public this Friday (3). It was the 22nd straight month in which the number of jobs that ceased to exist outpaced the number of jobs created.
The last positive net job creation result was in March 2015, at 19,200 jobs created. Despite the negative result in January, the result was better than in January 2015 and 2016, which saw 99,694 and 81,744 jobs closed respectively.
In the 12 months through January, 1.28 million jobs ceased to exist in the country. In 2016, the number was 1.32 million – a minor improvement from 1.54 million in 2015.
