São Paulo – Brazil’s National Supply Company (Conab, in the Portuguese acronym) has reported this Friday (14th) that the country will be the leading soy producer in the world. As per the 5th 2013-2014 Grain Crop Survey, released last Tuesday by the Conab, the current crop should yield 90 million tonnes of soy, an all-time high and up 10.4% from the last crop.
In case the estimate proves true, Brazilian output will be higher than that of the United States, which is currently the leading soy producing country at 89.4 million tonnes, according to the Conab. According to the company, the larger harvest will be the result of a 6.9% increase in planted area, and a 3.3% increase in productivity.
