São Paulo – A total of 280,638 60-kg bags of coffee were shipped from Brazil to Arab countries in the first two months this year, up 46% from the same period in 2013. As a result, the Arab market’s share in overall Brazilian exports of the product increased from 4% to 5%, as per figures released this Monday (10th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé).
The reason for the increased market share was the fact that sales to the region increased above the average rate. In all, 5.505 million coffee bags were shipped from Brazil in the first two months this year, up 15.6% from January and February 2013.
Revenues from exports to the Arab world, however, were down 2.7% to US$ 32.4 million in the first two months of 2014. Total export revenues declined by an even higher rate, at 17.9%, to US$ 768.7 million during the same period.
The leading target for Brazilian coffee in the first two months was Europe, followed by North America and Asia. The leading target countries were the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan and Belgium.
