São Paulo – A Brazilian professor, Alzier Felipe Buffara Antunes, gave a lecture last week during the 21st Colloquium of the International Catholic Association of Institutes of Educational Sciences (ACISE), at the University Saint-Esprit de Kaslik (Usek), in Lebanon. Antunes, of Lebanese origin, is a professor at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), in Curitiba, and discussed the Brazilian education system and globalization.
The meeting, whose theme was "Belonging and Globalization in Education. New Challenges for the Catholic University," was organized by the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Usek’s vice-rectorate of International Relations, and was held on April 28 and 29. Aside from Brazil, representatives from France, Poland, Italy, India, Chile and Lebanon were in attendance.
Professors from Latin American institutions took part in the event because the Usek maintains the Centre for Studies and Cultures of Latin America (Cecal). According to the Cecal director Roberto Khatlab, the UFPR maintains an agreement with the Usek and Antunes had travelled to Lebanon in 2010 to sign the agreement. Last week, Antunes also attended meetings to discuss exchange actions between the two teaching institutions, including student exchange and research.
