Brasília – Spending by Brazilians during international travels reached US$ 1.683 billion in June, and US$ 10.702 billion in the first half of this year. The Central Bank issued the figures this Tuesday (24th).
As a result of the recent dollar price hike, spending last month was lower than in June 2011 (US$ 1.866 billion) and May 2012 (US$ 1.829 billion). The result in June was the lowest for the month since 2010 (US$ 1.324 billion). Spending in the first half was up US$ 460 million from the same period of 2011 (US$ 10.242 billion).
In turn, spending by foreigners during trips to Brazil reached US$ 462 million in June this year, lower than in the same period of 2011 (US$ 471 million). In the first six months of 2012, foreign spending in Brazil reached US$ 3.471 billion, as against US$ 3.273 billion during the same period of last year.
