Sector sales dropped by 11.4% last month compared with the same month last year, resulting from poor performance of soy bean, oil and chaff, sugar and ethanol exports. Revenues reached US$ 7 billion.

The sugarcane crop in the Brazilian Mid-South will reach 508 million tonnes, according to Archer Consulting. That will produce 21.2 billion litres of ethanol and 32.5 million tonnes of sugar.

The sector export revenues with milk, milk cream and butter oil shipped to the Arab countries reached US$ 5 million in the first quarter of the year. The main buyer was Saudi Arabia.

Foreign sales of the commodity expanded by 115% in volume and 99% in revenues in the first quarter. The movement, however, should not invert the lower shipments forecasted for this year.

The country’s purchases from Brazil dropped early this year due to local authorities having found issues with products from other countries, and having decided to revise the documentation as a result.

In 2011, the sector benefited from a good crop and high international prices. The production surplus reached 800,000 tonnes. The goal for this year is to maintain the pace.
