In the Brazilian Mid-South, 479.3 million tonnes of sugarcane have been processed from January 1st to November 15th, a figure 9% lower than in the same period of the last crop.

The increment took place over a eight-year period, and FAO forecasts indicate that from 2012 onward, more than half the fish consumed will originate from aquaculture rather than sea fishing.

Foreign sales of the grain should total 1.2 million tonnes in this crop due to the lower production and higher global offer. In the last crop, 2.5 million tonnes were exported.

The Brazilian cattle herd increased by 2.1% last year as against 2009 and reached 209.5 million heads, according to a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
