The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has established a technological centre with the objective of improving energy sources like castor seed and oil palm biodiesel. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply has already turned R$ 10 million (US$ 4.9 million at current exchange rates) to the project.

Brazilian natural rubber production should grow in 2006. Last year production totalled 100,000 tonnes. The number is well below the 300 tonnes consumed in the country every year. Brazil has 70 mills for the processing of the product.
Villa Germania exported the first container of the product to the country last month. The idea was to ship between two and three containers a month. The Arab market should answer to 30% of company exports within coming years. The company is the largest slaughterer of ducks in Latin America: around 6,000 animals a day.
The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) is going to invest US$ 500,000 per year in an office in Ghana. The base will meet the demands of the whole continent, including the Arab countries in North Africa. Currently Embrapa has projects in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. The institution has the greatest knowledge on tropical agriculture in the world.
