Brazilian exports were up 6.4% in revenue and 2.8% in volume last year. Saudi Arabia lost its lead to the Asian country as the main destination of the product.
North African country shipped 49,000 tonnes in 2019, up 36% from 2018.
According to the ministry, the fat cattle arroba price dropped by 15% from early to late December. But the price is expected to remain higher than a year ago.
The country got a revenue of USD 1 billion from exports of the product – mainly corn and rice – to the Arab world.
Year-to-date through November, imports grew by 5.3% from a year ago, to USD 5.058 million.
July through November – the first five months of the 2019/2020 crop season – saw 535,714 tonnes shipped abroad.
The Arab country, which had been the biggest buyer for eight years on end, saw China overtake it this year.
