Algeria is among the main targets for Brazilian chicken exporters on the continent. Middle East sales dropped 1.2% in 2012, but the region still tops the list of main destination for the product.

In the 2012 crop, 531 million tonnes were processed, amounting to 21 billion litres of ethanol and 34 million tonnes of sugar. The figures concern the Brazilian Mid-South.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), sugar, dairy and oils were the items whose cost declined the most last year in its price index.

According to the slaughterhouse, the suspension of imports of beef for six months should not affect performance. These markets represent just 4% of foreign sales, which should go to other nations.

Purchases of the product have been halted until Brazil explains the ‘non-classical’ case of an animal contaminated with the disease which died in 2010. The announcement was made early this month.
