Brasília – The Brazilian Central Bank has revised its foreign direct investment (FDI) projection up from US$ 50 billion to US$ 60 billion for this year. In 2011, FDI in Brazil reached US$ 66.66 billion.
From January to August, foreign direct investment in Brazil reached US$ 43.175 billion, as against US$ 44.08 billion in the same period of 2011. In August only, FDI reached US$ 5.034 billion, exceeding the projection for the month (US$ 4 billion).
The FDI is expected to be equivalent to 2.61% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), i.e. the sum of all goods and services produced in the country, as against a previous estimate of 2.12%.
According to Central Bank projections, FDI inflow will be more than enough to offset the Brazilian current account deficit, which is expected to be US$ 53 billion at 2.31% of the GDP, as against a previous estimate of 2.38%.
