São Paulo – Brazilian chicken exports grew 8.8% in volume and 20% in revenues in July this year as against the same month in 2012. According to the figures disclosed on Friday (2) by the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef), in the same month last year, Brazil exported 339,600 tonnes of chicken, with total revenues of US$ 680.5 million.
In the accumulated result for the year, the volume shipped was 3% lower than the total exported from January to July 2012, and the total was 2.229 million tonnes. Revenues this year totalled US$ 4.774 billion, or 8.8% more than revenues accumulated in the first seven months of last year.
In a press statement, the Ubabef president, Francisco Turra, stated that the growth in exports was already expected and is a result of seasonal movement. He also said that new markets may help maintain the growth of sales and equal the level of 2012.
“Shipments should maintain the same level of growth with the opening of the Mexican market for Brazilian poultry and may also be boosted by the habilitation of new plants for China, allowing for the maintenance of the forecast of reaching equivalent export volumes to those of 2012,” said the president at Ubabef. Last year, the country shipped 3.918 million tonnes of chicken, according to figures disclosed by the institution.
In the statement, Turra pointed out, however, that “pressure” between offer and demand is not discarded. He said that there is not great availability of product on the market as producers have balanced the volume of animals slaughtered due to the crisis.
