São Paulo – Brazil exported over 655,000 60-kilogram bags of coffee to Arab countries from January to May this year, up 20% from the same period in 2013, as per data released this Monday (9th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé).
As a result, the Arab market’s share in overall Brazilian coffee exports went from 4% from January to May last year to 5% in the same period in 2014.
Revenues, however, declined from US$ 92 million year-to-date through may 2013 to US$ 84.9 million in the same period this year, down 7.7%.
Overall, coffee exports from Brazil also increased in volume but declined in revenues. A total of 14.51 million bags were shipped abroad, up 13.9% and revenues stood at US$ 2.3 billion, down 2.1%.
Europe was the top export destination during the period, followed by North America, Asia, South America, Africa and Oceania. The main individual markets were United States, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Japan.
In May alone, Brazil shipped 2,923,115 bags abroad, up 13.4% from May 2013. Revenues stood at US$ 539.5 million, up 19.5% May-on-May.
