São Paulo – Brazilian coffee exports were up 18.1% from January through August this year from the same period of last year, to 23.62 million 60-kilogram bags. Revenues were also up from the same period in 2013, by 14.6% to US$ 4 billion.
“Shipped volume from January to August this year attests to the good export performance in 2014, in line with expectations that the calendar year will close with 34 to 35 million bags shipped, i.e. up 8% to 11% from 2013,” said Guilherme Braga, CEO of the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé) in a press release.
Export to Arab countries amounted to 939,578 bags, up 7% in volume from January through August 2013. Arab countries accounted for 4% of Brazil’s coffee exports during the period.
Revenues from exports of the commodity in July and August this year, the first two months of the 2014-2015 crop, amounted to US$ 1.131 billion, up 50% from the same period in the previous crop.
As a consequence, Braga expects export revenue results to be positive by the end of 2014. “Likewise, prices have been improving for a few months now, and were up 23.6% year-on-year in August. This leads us to believe we will see equally satisfactory results in revenues this year,” the CEO said according to the press release.
