São Paulo – Brazil exported nearly 2.7 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee in January, up 5.9% from January 2013. Export revenues were close to US$ 374 million, down 26.6% January-on-January, indicating a decline in product price. The information was released this Monday (10th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé, in the Portuguese acronym).
Cecafé chairman Guilherme Braga has said in a press release that exports may amount to 33 million bags this year, as against 31 million in 2013 and 28.3 million in 2012.
In January, Arabica coffee accounted for 84.8% of exports, soluble coffee stood at 10.7%, Robusta coffee accounted for 4.5% and roasted and ground coffee answered to only 0.1%.
Exports to Arab countries fetched US$ 16.6 million last year, down 1.4% from January 2013. Over 135,000 bags were shipped, up 39% using the same basis of comparison.
The leading importing countries in January were the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Belgium, Russia, Slovenia, Canada, Lebanon and Turkey. Lebanon, the only Arab country among the 10 top buyers, imported 58,000 bags, up 128% from January 2013.
