Rio de Janeiro – Brazil should produce 184.2 million tonnes of grain and leguminous and oleaginous plants next year. The volume is 1.4% lower than obtained in the 2013 crop up to the month of October. The crop area, in turn, should reach 53.6 million hectares in 2014, 1.8% more than was picked this year. The figures are part of the first prognosis for the cultivation area and agricultural crop for 2014, disclosed on Friday (8) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The tenth estimate for the domestic grain, leguminous and oleaginous plant crop – for the first ten months of the year, disclosed on Friday – estimated production 186.8 million tonnes, 15.4% greater than obtained in 2012 in the same period, when production totalled 161.9 million tonnes. According to the IBGE, rice, maize and soy are the three main products in the crop. Added, they represent 93% of the estimated production and 86.2% of the cropland.
