São Paulo – The demand for air travel increased 3.09% in April over the same period of last year. According to data released this Friday (22nd) by the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), the seat capacity increased 1.31% in the same comparison. These statistics take into account the data from Abear’s members: TAM, Gol, Azul and Avianca.
Abear’s president, Eduardo Sanovicz, attributed the increase in passenger demand flight capacity to the “direct action” of airlines to keep their flights full. “Each company follows its own strategy but, in general, this is equal to saying that the sector has been setting attractive prices, below the average of the previous year, to attract the clients that, otherwise, would give up their trips”, he said.
In total, the number of passengers carried in April in domestic flights increased 6.39% over the previous year, going to a little more than eight million travellers.
