São Paulo – The emirate of Dubai was announced as one of 10 host cities for Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream event on September 26, a charity event that will take place at the same time in New York (United States), Lagos (Nigeria), Seoul (South Korea), and cities in Europe and Latin America yet to be announced.
This is the first time a Middle Eastearn country joins the event organized by Global Citizen, an international organization founded in 2012 that aims to end extreme poverty by 2030.
The 10-hour, six-continent telecast expects to draw more than 1.5 billion viewers worldwide and will feature performances by the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eddie Vedder, Metallica, Muse, Ozzy Osbourne, Janelle Monáe, Shawn Mendes, Alicia Keys, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, and Cyndi Lauper, among others. The concerts in Dubai are yet to be announced.
The event will call on governments and the private sector to raise the USD 350 billion needed annually to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The goals include ending extreme poverty, reducing income inequality and combating climate change.
The news was announced this Tuesday (21) as part of the United Arab Emirates delegation’s participation in the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. UAE minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future Mohammed Al-Gergawi joined actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas (pictured above) on the forum stage to announce the Dubai participation in the event.
