São Paulo – Abu Dhabi-based Edge Group and Brazil’s Akaer announced on Thursday (16) in São José dos Campos, São Paulo state, that the Emirati company will acquire a 100% stake in the Brazilian firm following months of collaboration on the development and industrialization of unmanned systems. In a statement, Edge Group, one of the United Arab Emirates’ largest defense companies, said the transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
Akaer develops technology solutions for a range of industries, particularly the aerospace sector. It has contributed to the development of military aircraft for Brazil, as well as satellite and infrared systems, among other technologies. The company is Brazilian-owned and headquartered in São José dos Campos.
In the statement, Edge Group CEO and Managing Director Hamad Al Marar said Akaer will bring valuable engineering expertise to the company.
“This is a highly specialized team with three decades of experience delivering complex aerospace programs, and that expertise strengthens what we can offer across the Group. Our priority is continuity, for AKAER’s people, its programs and its customers, while building the foundation for long term growth,” he said.
The statement also said Akaer will continue to operate in Brazil under local management. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In recent years, Edge Group has invested in other Brazilian defense companies, including non-lethal weapons manufacturer Condor and SIATT.
