São Paulo – Egypt and Algeria were on the list of leading importers of Brazilian agribusiness products in February, and respectively increased their imports by 23% and 52% from February 2013. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were also on the list of top 20 importers, even though their imports were down 13% and 45%, respectively. Saudi Arabia was the leading target for Brazilian agribusiness products in February, Egypt ranked 12th, Algerians ranked 15th, and the UAE ranked 17th.
The top two importers are China and the United States. China imported US$ 1.4 billion worth of livestock and farming products in February, and the US imported US$ 435 million. Saudi Arabia imported US$ 168.8 million, Egypt imported US$ 146 million, Algeria imported US$ 125.8 million and the UAE imported US$ 94 million.
The Middle East and Africa imported less Brazilian agribusiness products February-on-February. The Arab countries are located in these regions; other non-Arab countries, such as Iran and Turkey, are also located in the Middle East. The Middle East’s combined imports stood at US$ 557.6 million last month, down 8.8%. Africa imported the equivalent of US$ 502.3 million from Brazil, down 12.5%.
Revenues from Brazilian agribusiness exports were up 1.4% last month to US$ 6.39 billion, according to figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Soy bean, bran and oil was the most exported product group, and its foreign sales increased the most. Revenues from exports of soy and its products were up 85.5% from February 2013, to US$ 911 million, and accounted for 26.5% of total agribusiness exports. Soy bean shipped volumes have soared, according to the ministry.
