São Paulo – This Thursday (24th), Embraer announced the sale of 47 Embraer 175 jets to Republic Airways Holdings Inc. The latter will operate local United States routes for American Eagle, an American Airlines subsidiary. According to Embraer, the deal includes options for another 47 E175s, and the value of the deal may reach US$ 4 billion.
The aircraft will be configured for two different classes and will have capacity for 76 passengers. According to Embraer, the first unit will be delivered this year. The deal, however, is pending court approval, because American filed for bankruptcy restructuring on November 29th, 2011.
In a press release, the Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO, Paulo Cesar Silva, said Republic Airways will be the first buyer of the E175 equipped with new features which lower consumption and enable sparser maintenance. Embraer shares were up over 10% on the São Paulo Stock Exhcange (Bovespa). As of 02:39 pm, the company’s stock was up 9.02% and selling for R$ 15.95 (US$ 7.8 as per current exchange rate).
