São Paulo – This Wednesday (3rd), Emirates Airline announced the addition of three new units to its 186-strong aircraft fleet: two Airbus A380 models, the largest aircraft currently in operation, and one Boeing 777-300. According to the company, the jets were delivered on Tuesday (2nd) and will begin flying right away to 126 different destinations served by the company.
With the arrival of the Airbus units, the company now boasts 25 A380 model aircrafts, each of which can carry more than 500 passengers. Emirates owns the highest number of units of the model in the world. In addition to the units it already owns, the company has ordered another 65, of which 6 are due to be delivered this year. The new Boeing aircraft, in turn, has increased the company’s 777-300 fleet to 78 units.
The A380s are flown in routes to Amsterdam, Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Seoul, Rome, Shanghai, Melbourne, Tokyo, Toronto, Paris, New York, London, Munich and Manchester. Before the end of the year, the model will also fly to Moscow and Singapore.
Emirates is still negotiating with the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) in order to use the A380 in flights to Brazil. The Dubai-São Paulo route is currently flown by a Boeing 777. The state-owned Infraero has already authorized operations using the aircraft in the country, so long as it lands and takes off from the São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, at off-peak hours.
