Brasília – Last year, the installed capacity for energy generation in Brazil reached 117,134.72 megawatts (MW), which represents growth of 4% over 2010. According to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the energy from hydroelectric power plants answers to 66.91% of the country’s installed capacity.
The energy generated by thermal-electric plants answers to 26.67% of the total, and small hydroelectric power plants answer to 3.3%. The grid also includes 1.71% of its power from nuclear power plants and, 1.22% from wind energy, among others.
The figures are included in the Aneel inspection report, which presents Brazilian electric generation up to December 21st, 2011.
