São Paulo – A study conducted by Brazil’s National Supply Company (Conab) shows that the Port of Santos, in the Southeastern state of São Paulo, is the primary outlet for soy and maize from the 2016/2017 crop, but volumes are increasing in ports across the North as well.
According to the study, 72.9 million tons of soy and 24 million tons of maize should be shipped out from Brazilian ports during the 2016/17 season. The Port of Santos should see 19.8 million tons of soy and 10.4 million tons shipped.
In North Brazil, foreign sales are set to increase at Porto de Itaqui, in Maranhão, where 7.2 million tons of soy and maize left the country in 2015. This year, soy exports alone are expected to amount to 6.6 million tons in Itaqui.
