São Paulo – Foreign sales by the Brazilian footwear industry rebounded slightly in June, following three straight months in decline. According to figures released by the Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (Abicalçados) this Friday (11th), exports were up 3.5% June-on-June. Revenues stood at US$ 83.3 million.
In the first half this year, however, exports were down 2.6% to US$ 522.3 million. Shipped volume, on the other hand, was up 6.2% from January to June this year from the same period in 2013, to 63.7 million pairs.
“The numbers are explained by the decline in average product price, which was down 8.2% to US$ 8.20,” said Abicalçados executive president Heitor Klein in a press statement. Average prices were lower in the comparison between the first halves of 2014 and 2013.
The leading Brazilian shoe export target year-to-date through June was the United States, at US$ 88 million, up 2.6%. Argentina ranked second at US$ 33 million, down 39%. The third leading target was France, at US$ 31.85 million, down 5.3%.
