São Paulo – The furniture companies in the Brazilian Furniture project have increased their exports to the United Arab Emirates by 41%, from US$ 768,000 in the first 11 months of 2011 to over US$ 1 million in the first 11 months of of 2012. The figures were released by the project, which involves companies and sectorial organizations and aims to promote exports and consolidate the image of Brazilian furniture.
Comprising 55 companies, Brazilian Furniture is managed by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex), the Federal District Furniture Industries Union (Sindimam) and the Brazilian Association of Furniture Industries (Abimovel). The companies participate in actions meant to foster exports, mainly to the United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Colombia, South Africa, Russia, Angola, and the United Arab Emirates.
Sales to the Arab country were above average, and the project’s exports as a whole were up 9% from January to November this year compared with the same period of 2011. The Emirates, however, do not represent much in relation to the total, because the companies in the project posted US$ 69 million in export revenues during the period. This year, some of the Brazilian Furniture companies have attended Index Dubai, a trade show held in September.
Other countries, such as Mexico, have also stood out as buyers of furniture from Brazil. Sales to Mexico were up 46%, from US$ 1 million to nearly US$ 1.5 million. Exports were up 22% to Angola, 11% to Peru, and 16% to the United States. Sales to South Africa and Chile saw a decline.
