Rio de Janeiro – Brazil’s national grain crop is seen reaching an all-time high as per forecasts from July. Total cereal, legume and oilseed output is expected to amount to 242.1 million tons, up 31.1% from 2016 and 0.7% from the estimate released in June.
The numbers were made public this Thursday (10) by the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The July forecast is up 184.7 million tons from the one released the prior month. The 2016 crop reached 184.7 million tons, which is 57.4 million tons less than this year’s expected output.
Crop area increased by 7.1% from 57.1 million hectares last year to 61.1 million hectares this year. Soy output, at 115 million tons, and maize output, at 99.4 million tons, are expected to be all-time bests.
