Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian crop of cereals, leguminous and oil seeds is expected to reach 210.4 million tons this year, 8.8% higher than the in 2014 (193.3 million tons), said this Friday (9) the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The estimation adds 396,200 tons to August’s estimation, which represents an increase of 0.2% over the previous calculation.
The National Supply Company (Conab) also released this Friday (9th) a field survey on planting intention in the grains crop. Acccording to Conab, the 2015/2016 crop could vary between 210.3 million tons to 213.5 million tons, an increase of 0.2% to 1.7% over the previous crop, when 209.8 million tons were registered.
These calculations by Conab and IBGE are done based on different methodologies. IBGE works with calendar years, while Conab researches the crop year, which goes from April to March of the following year in the South-Central region. IBGE also includes, in its surveys, cultures that are not part of Conab’s researches.
