São Paulo – The Halal do Brasil project is assembling a working committee. In a meeting this Thursday morning (16) at the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in São Paulo, representatives of halal certifiers in Brazil were invited to participate in the group. The project is conducted by the ABCC and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
The Halal Committee aims to increase the number of Brazilian companies qualified to export to halal markets, position Brazil as a reference halal supplier, and disseminate knowledge about the global halal market.
The committee will be responsible for providing the ABCC with technical data on halal and certification processes; managing relationships with international certification agents; discussing and sharing information about the halal market, challenges, trends, and opportunities; ensuring the truthfulness of the data; disseminating technical content and carrying out training, among other tasks.
The committee will have monthly meetings in the year’s first half and bimonthly thereafter. The meetings will discuss relevant topics about the halal market worldwide, religious and technical aspects, certification, traceability, and the consumer market.
Members of the committee include ABCC staff and board members, the ApexBrasil team in charge of the Halal do Brasil poject, H2R Pesquisas Avançadas, and Academia Halal. Meetings will also include the participation of invited partners, without voting rights, to make relevant contributions to the topics. Participation is voluntary. On the occasion, those interested in participating were invited to sign a term of adhesion to the committee.
The Halal do Brasil project, expected to last 30 months until 2025, will invest BRL 15.4 million (about USD 2.96 million at the current rate) to bring 500 companies to halal markets. The main goal is to encourage the entry of Brazilian companies producing value-added foodstuffs in countries with halal consumers. The project will pay half of the qualification costs for 50 companies.
