São Paulo – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced this Friday (25) the release of US$ 225 million to Tunisia, after the third revision in the 24-month agreement signed by the financial institution and by the country in June last year.
With this disbursement, the amount released by the Fund since the beginning of the partnership rises to US$ 888.4 million. The agreement provides for a total of US$ 1.78 billion, the equivalent of 400% of the Tunisian quota with the multilateral organization.
The previous instalment was made available in January, after the creation of a new transitional government in the North African nation.
The revisions made by the FMI took into consideration the economic development of the country to release new instalments. The partnership allows for the creation of a reform program.
The Tunisian people were the first to bring down an authoritarian government during the so-called Arab Spring, in 2011.
